Sponsored by Brodies LLP since 2010, the annual debating competition sees students from the University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University compete in a lively legal debate on a fictitious problem based on genuine legal issues in the settings of a real court case to see whether the victory will go to Old or New Aberdeen. Usually before a Sheriff at the Aberdeen Sheriff Court or the Society of Advocates in Aberdeen Library, the Moot is the highlight of Aberdeen's mock trial calendar. The competition was founded by Jamie Allan, President of the University of Aberdeen's Mooting Society in 2009.
After the 2020/21 moots were canceled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Mooting Society is excited to return to competing with our rivals at Robert Gordon University for the 2022 rendition of the Granite City Moot. Scottish Legal News have covered previous Granite City Moots, see here for their reports: 2019, 2018, 2016 |
